Remember the Yellow and Blue

Here in America, it's easy to not think about what happens outside of our borders. After all, we are in the top 1% of the world in terms of wealth and freedom. Why should we be concerned with what happens outside our borders as long as it doesn't directly threaten us? If, for instance, Ukraine is invaded by Russia, what should that matter to us as long as Russia doesn't threaten to harm us as well?

However, it should matter to us. The Ukrainians are humans just like us, even if they aren't American citizens. They are also made in God's image. Their pain should hurt us, particularly us Christians, to know they are under attack from a dictatorial regime and are suffering in a war. We are created to care for our fellow man and to help them.

Also, because we're in the top %1, we should especially be willing to help them in more than just words. We have great power to help, and so we have a greater responsibility to help. They're not within our borders and their war may not impact us directly, but that is no excuse to not help them.

Christians also have a duty to do more than just say they support them. "But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth."1 John 3:17–18 English Standard Version. Saying we support Ukraine, but do nothing in deed to back up our words makes our words hollow and pointless.

We should keep Ukraine in our prayers and help them in any way we can. Pray for and comfort those who are in Ukraine or who have family/friends there. Contribute to non-profits providing relief to the war-torn Ukrainians and assisting the refugees.

I'm burdened in my heart over them and I pray that I will not forget them and their struggles.

Remember the blue and yellow of Ukraine as they suffer in their time of darkness. Remember them in our times of peace and prosperity. Remember them as we pray to the LORD.
